There is a lake by my house.  Sandwiched between two highways, it is full of people, polluted with noise, and riddled with garbage.  But there is also a beauty here that can only be seen if you really look hard.  Just sitting and enjoying the scenery helps, too.

The morning is crisp and I can almost see my breath.  At only 45 degrees F, I can almost begin to lose some feeling in the tips of my fingers, but then again, I have poor circulation.

The early birds are up and chirping and playing, chock full of protein from their morning grub.  They float magically from branch, carefree and unaware of things like work and bills and money.  All they care about is the food in their belly and their mates.  Oh, to be a bird!

The water is blue and reflective with a hint of gold from the sun.  There is not a cloud in the sky, a nice change from the rain two days before.  The ground is wet and the earth is squishy from the abnormally warm rains.

I can hear a mallard in the water, possibly in search of a second breakfast or a play date from another drake or female.

I love this place.  I have spent 25 years coming here and there is always something new to discover.
